Commercial Colleges? - a research project in partnership with Gazelle

According to the Public Accounts Committee, the financial state of further education (FE) colleges is deeply worrying. There is, they conclude, a risk of financial collapse, with over  70 colleges struggling financially. Evidence also shows that colleges across the sector are  postponing investment and  cutting costs in order to cope with short-term challenges.

The Government’s preferred solution appears to be rationalisation. The stated aim of its national programme of area-based reviews (ABRs) – to be completed by March 2017 – is to move ‘towards fewer, larger, more  resilient and efficient providers, and more  effective collaboration across institution types’.

Against this  background, the Gazelle Colleges Group, in partnership with executive search and  talent development specialists Wickland Westcott, undertook extensive research into the implications of these imminent changes for leadership and  practice.
