Surveyor of the Fabric

Westminster AbbeyTo recruit their next Surveyor of the Fabric, Westminster Abbey required a search partner that would be sympathetic to their needs whilst having the credibility to engage with a sophisticated and knowledgeable market - the very best ecclesiastical architects in the country.

As well as assessing their technical prowess, we also had to evaluate whether candidates had the commitment required to take forward one of the nation’s most unique historical and architectural treasures, encapsulating over a thousand years of British history. Wickland Westcott consulted and searched across the ecclesiastical community, ensuring we spoke with all relevant parties, to identify and target the very best architects with that rare combination of skills.

We delivered a shortlist of four professionals who, on paper and following an extensive interview process, were able to demonstrate the expertise essential for this unique and unparalleled role. From here, the Dean and Chapter and their selection committee were able to choose their preferred candidate, in line with the objectives and timelines defined at the outset of the process.

Partnering with Wickland Westcott afforded Westminster Abbey the opportunity to target and sell the role to a small group of specialist architects. It also ensured that the Abbey was supported in running a thorough and professional process that delivered the right result in a manner commensurate with their culture and values.
