Transforming Supply Chain Performance

Rolls of SteelTata Steel Europe supplies a range of products to multiple markets, operating 3 integrated steel plants along with several downstream processing facilities.  Since the acquisition of the business from Corus in 2007, Tata has invested heavily in manufacturing assets, new products and advanced operating practices leading to the development of a fully integrated supply chain model.

The company was seeking to appoint a Head of Supply Chain Excellence to support the roll-out of the transformation strategy across the UK Strip Product value stream.   Operating across multiple sites and managing the needs of a range of stakeholder groups, the role is responsible for unlocking value across the extended supply chain whilst leading specific projects to deliver step change in business performance.

Wickland Westcott undertook a campaign targeting relevant candidates operating in complex supply chain environments across different industries throughout the UK.  This involved advertising the position via executive job boards whilst searching into a range of multi-site organisations in order to identify a breadth of candidates with operational, change management and/or consultancy-based supply chain experience.

Having fielded a strong shortlist featuring four candidates with contrasting, suitable backgrounds, the client selected their preferred individual through an interview-based process supported by the use of psychometrics.  The successful applicant has a combination of operational, project-based and change management experience gained across a European supply chain in the aerospace sector, making him well suited to deal with the complexities and challenges of the Tata Steel Europe business.
