Facilitating Profitable Growth

Anabas logoAfter a decade building a profitable niche support services company with a portfolio of blue chip corporate and consumer clients, Mark Cooper, the founder and owner of Anabas, decided he needed a top flight individual with new ideas to help take the business forward. The brief to Wickland Westcott was to find a proven Managing Director who could double turnover and EBITDA through a combination of organic growth and acquisition, and professionalise the organisation to enhance both its service offer and value.

Mark was keen to recruit a strong leader with an entrepreneurial mindset who really understood small company dynamics and the importance of looking after a loyal team of employees who had played a key part in establishing an excellent marketplace reputation. Equally, he wanted someone with big company know-how to build industry leading systems and processes and a nimble performance-led culture to support the growth projections. If this person could bring relevant contacts and business development skills to significantly grow the top line without appreciably increasing the cost base, then so much the better.

Wickland Westcott carried out a confidential search to avoid worrying existing clients, who perhaps saw Mark as the personification of the business. Candidate acquisition activity targeted director level soft and hard facilities management operators with multisite P&L experience who had forged a reputation for forward-thinking solutions, either as a supplier or a client in the corporate, retail and leisure sectors. The search activity was supported with a blind on-line advertisement to attract individuals not currently in the industry. From a large pool of candidates eight were long-listed, and four were subsequently asked to do presentations and psychometrics, before the successful candidate was finally selected. Commercially astute and with a successful growth track record, the appointee brings to Anabas a progressive business development and operations expertise in small, national and international integrated facilities management operations. He came with a reputation for putting values into action and a passion for making great customer experience a differentiator within service delivery. On the back of this successful assignment Wickland Westcott was asked to recruit an Operations Director, and Anabas has recently made an appointment from a major international retailer.
